The attached link will take you to a story in the Sydney Morning Herald that talks about where motorsport is going at the top levels of car racing both here and overseas.

It makes for some very interesting reading, especially given a number of other discussions at present doing the rounds about franchises and how going down that path would work so well for motorcycle racing in this country. It would seem that apart from a handful of the very top name drivers in Australia it hasn't been to good for the majority.

What this story backs up is the line I have been pushing for years being that motorcycle racing while a great sport can only grow if it becomes more inclusive rather then exclusive like the V8's have.

I don't mind if MA and now Konksy keep on copying my ideas to lower costs for competitors by providing more cost effective level playing field classes of racing as this is the only way the sport will grow. Trying to keep their head in the clouds approach of retaining super expensive Superbikes and even the Supersport classes going will only see the ASBK continue to shrink as fewer and fewer riders can afford to race in those classes.

Dropping entry fees as they have said they will do for next year will do nothing to get more people to go racing. Entry fees are the cheapest part of going racing, the real expense is in the cost of the classes.

Anyway have a read of the article and find out for yourselves, the main part about domestic V8 drivers and what they don't earn is near the end of the story but the whole story is really worth reading.

cheers,
Terry
