Aprilia Racing Team To Debut New Recruit At Qld Raceway

The Aprilia Racing Team is pleased to announce the signing of up and coming young Queensland rider Sam Heath to contest the final four rounds of the 2012 Australian FX Superbike Championship.

Sam will ride the Aprilia Racing Team’s highly developed Aprilia RSV-4 Superbike in the Formula Oz class for the remainder of the season under the watchful eye of Team Principal Steve Trinder, Team Logistics Manager - Rod Archer, and former rider Dan Stauffer, who has decided to take on a mentoring and coaching role within the team.

“I couldn’t believe it when Rod Archer rang and asked me if I was interested in riding for the Aprilia Racing Team” said an over-the-moon Sam Heath after his first taste of the potent RSV-4. “I just can’t believe how adjustable the bike is, it reminds me of my old 250GP bike – that is until you open the throttle - I came out of turn two at Queensland Raceway today and all of a sudden I was at the end of the straight and it was time to brake for turn three - it’s so fast and smooth. Also the opportunity to work with a legend like Steve Trinder is not the sort of break that a young rider gets everyday – even today he helped me so much with bike setup”.

I’m looking forward to continuing my involvement with Aprilia Racing Team” declared newly appointed rider coach and mentor Dan Stauffer. “I’m not saying I’m not riding race bikes anymore by any means, but I feel right now, I can really add more value to the team by passing on my years of experience - not only in racing – but with this bike – to a young up and coming rider. I also really get along well with Steve and Rod and just wanted to be involved in a different way other than riding”.

“I always keep my eye on the young talent and noticed how hard Sam was trying on his privateer machine” commented Team Principal Steve Trinder. “Rod and I talked about it, and rather than go for an established superbike rider we thought that we would give a young rider who had shown how hungry he was a chance to ,make a name for himself. Sam has impressed us with his raw talent, now it’s up to us to polish that and see if we can turn him into a star”.

“I was so impressed with Sam today in his first test on the bike” said team Logistics Manager Rod Archer. “After today, I am positive that with the professionalism and experience of both Steve and Dan we will be able to bring Sam on in no time at all. The way he took to the bike today, braking so deep into the corners, in only his first ride gives me nothing but confidence that we have made the right choice in both rider and strategy”.

The next outing for the Aprilia Racing Team is round three of the 2012 Australian FX-Superbike Championship at the teams home circuit of Queensland Raceway over the weekend of 21-22 July.

The Aprilia Racing team would like to thanks its sponsors for the 2012 season, as without them it is impossible to go racing Aprilia, Brisbane Aprilia, Archers Smash DPAR, Motul, RK Chains, Pirelli, Ferodo Brakes, BMC Airfilters and JT Sprockets
