Below is a full explanation from Phil Tainton the chairman of the M.A Road Race Commission on how the engine end case protector rules will work for all classes of road racing in Australia. I believe this should cover the concern people have had about knowing what is acceptable and what is not. These rules will be adopted for all the Formula Xtreme based classes such as the FZ6 Cup, Pro-Twins, Nakedbikes and the Formula Xtreme class. Given the lateness of this clarification the rules will come into effect after the first Red Baron NSWRRC round at Eastern Creek Raceway.
Regards,
Terry O'Neill
Competitors must use one of the following two Engine case protection:
1. Heavy duty crash resistant engine end cases described in the GCR's rule # 15.6.0.9 r) which reads: Engine end cases, providing the thickness is the same or greater than the original and are made of aluminium.
2. Engine end case protectors described in the GCR's rule # 15.2.3.4 which reads: Engine end case protectors mounted using at least two of the original bolt locations and to protrude no more than 20mm.
15.2.3.4 Rule Interpretation and Intention:
Clarification:
For all solo 4 stroke machines competing in organised race events through out Australia where the Engine End cases contain fluid and protrude outside the chassis rails and be made from a crash resistant material suitably fixed as described.

Phil Tainton
